Students on this program have the opportunity to gain an understanding of Spanish culture and family life. Visits to museums, schools, daycares, neighborhoods, and local communities provide a glimpse into the lives of Spanish families. In addition to these excursions, students will participate in a dynamic classroom environment with integrative activities and discussions with invited guest speakers and under a tailored curriculum. These educational experiences allow students to reflect on the similarities and differences of families across cultures. Students on this program have the opportunity to earn required upper-level coursework for their major while immersed in Spanish culture.

Eligibility

This program is open to all interested undergraduate students, but is intended for upper-division students majoring in Family & Child Sciences or related disciplines. Applicants must have successfully completed (with a “B-“ or better) or be currently enrolled in CHD 2220, FAD 2230, and CHD 3243 at the time of application.

Housing

Program housing is in shared apartments in the historic district of the city. Apartments are located either on the top floors of the study center or in nearby buildings. Amenities include fully-equipped kitchens, lounge space, cable TV, Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, weekly cleaning service with a change of bed linens and towels, and secure access to the study center’s library, computer lab, and study spaces. Meal vouchers that can be redeemed at restaurants across Spain are also provided. Overnight guests are not allowed in program housing. For a list of hotels near the campus, please click here.

Excursions & Group Activities

Plans may change due to unexpected events and/or new opportunities. Immersion and social events planned for this program may include:
