With over 15 professional sports teams based in London, students on this program are immersed in British sport and have the opportunity to study the culture of British sport first-hand in the only city in the world to play host to three Olympics. Students tour a variety of world-class sport venues, including the storied Wimbledon grounds and the British Open, as well as football, rugby, and cricket stadiums. While visiting these sites, students examine the relationship between local sport cultures and the globalizing forces shaping the contemporary sporting scene.

Eligibility

This program is open to all interested undergraduate and graduate students.

Housing

Participants will stay in shared apartments in central London either in the study center or within walking distance in comparable housing. Amenities include fully equipped kitchens, furnished living areas, Wi-Fi, cable TV, and a cleaning service every two weeks that includes a change of bed linens and towels. Overnight visitors are not allowed in program housing. Click here for a list of nearby hotels for visitors.

Excursions & Group Activities

Plans may change due to unexpected events and/or new opportunities. Immersion and social events planned for this program may include:

  • Overnight Trip to Royal Birkdale Golf Club for the British Open (dependent on timing/availability)
  • Tour of sports facilities around London including: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Lord’s Cricket Ground, Chelsea FC Stamford Bridge, and the 2012 Olympic Facilities in London
  • Climb the O2
  • Attend Wimbledon (dependent on timing/availability)
  • Meet with executives from sports organizations
  • Welcome dinner

Program Fees

Include:

  • Instructional costs of 6 undergraduate or graduate credits
  • Housing
  • £70 worth of meal vouchers per each 4-week session
  • Transport card for class and program-organized excursions

  • On-site administrative & pastoral support
  • International health insurance
